Broox Holmes received his undergraduate degree and law degrees from the University of Alabama and a law degree from the University Of Alabama School Of Law where he was a member of the Alabama Law Review, National Moot Court Team, Bench & Bar Honor Society and Phi Delta Phi. Between college and law school, Holmes served three years on active duty in the United States Marine Corps including service in Japan and Okinawa as a rifle platoon leader and Company Executive Officer in the Third Marine Regiment Mr. Holmes has broad and extensive trial and litigation experience in a variety of cases from complex business litigation to personal injury matters. He has served as lead trial counsel in products liability, business disputes, death and personal injury cases, including lead trial counsel for the defendants in the Amtrak Sunset Limited lawsuits (47 deaths) following one of the worst disasters in U.S. rail history. Holmes served as a member of the Alabama State Bar Board of Commissioners from 1987 to 1993 and on the Executive Committee in 1990-91. He served on the Alabama State Bar Grievance Committee from 1974-78 and as its Chairman in 1978 for which he received the Bar’s Award of Merit. He also served as a member of the Judicial Inquiry Commission (1982-1986) and as Chairman of the State Bar Litigation Section (1990-91). He is a member of the Alabama Supreme Court Committee on Rules of Evidence, the American Law Institute and the Alabama Law Institute. Holmes has contributed to continuing legal education as a lecturer and faculty member at various programs and seminars and served on the MCLE Commission. He was elected President of the Alabama State Bar for 1994-95. He has also served on the Executive Committee of the Mobile Bar Association, as Chairman of the Civil Practice, Federal Courts and other committees of that association and served on the Advisory Committee of the U. S. District Court for the Southern District of Alabama. He is a member of the Mobile Chapter of the American Inns of Court. Holmes is a member and Past President of the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association, the National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel, the International Association of Defense Counsel, Maritime Law Association of the United States, a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, and a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers (State Chairman 1991-92). He is listed in Who Who in American Law and The Best Lawyers in America in Business Litigation and Personal Injury Litigation. He is a member of the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce, Mobile Touchdown Club, and other civic organizations in Mobile. For several years, he served as a member and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of St. Paul’s Episcopal School in Mobile and on the Vestry of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Mr. Holmes has been recognized for 2010 by Alabama Super Lawyers. Mr. Holmes has also been named to the Star Search List.
