W. Boyd Reeves
In Memoriam
In 2016, we lost Boyd Reeves, one of our partners, and a stalwart of the bar. During his career, Boyd tried over 300 jury and non-jury cases in state and federal courts in the areas of medical and legal malpractice, maritime law (including collisions, cargo, personal injury, and claims under the Longshore and Harbor Worker’s Compensation Act), industrial accidents, and trucking and auto accidents. He successfully argued the maritime jurisdiction case of Victory Carriers, Inc. v. Law before the United States Supreme Court, and also argued numerous cases before the 5th and 11th Circuit Courts of Appeal and the Alabama Supreme Court. Boyd was listed in Best Lawyers in America from the inception of that publication. Boyd was a founding member of the Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute and served as its Chairman. He served on the Executive Committee of The Maritime Law Association of the United States and as Chairman of that organization’s Committee on Stevedoring and Terminal Operations. Boyd was a president of the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association and of the Mobile Bar Association. He was a fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers and the International Society of Barristers. He served on the Mobile County Judicial Nominating Commission and on the Board of the Federal Defender Program. He also was active in community affairs and served on the Board of the American Heart Association, the IRB Committee of the Mobile Infirmary, and as Chancellor of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. He served as counsel for the Sheriff of Mobile County, Alabama and as a founding member of the John M. Will Scholarship Committee.
